Beyond Your Dreams. Within Your Reach...

Located in rural Jamul, you may have to drive just a little bit more to get here.

But it's worth the effort.  You will find personal attention,  Kind and willing ponies and horses.  And We will make every effort to make riding fit into your budget.  Our basic budget package is 5 lessons for $275

Our History

Forth Downs actually started as a Norwegian fjord horse breeding program . Sarah started a working student program to give the mares something to do.  She found out that she enjoyed teaching very much and that Fjord horses make excellent school horses .  Due to market forces and life circumstances Sarah sold her last stallion and discontinued the breeding program in 2019.  The picture shows 3 generations of Fjords.

We have now added some "honorary Fjords" to the lesson program as we had the opportunity to acquire ponies and horses of good character.

I have been riding since the age of 7.  I took my first formal lessons in Virginia so Western never entered the picture.  In my young and bold years I did  jumping and combined training (that includes galloping cross country). I now focus on dressage and have won some year end awards. I've never done a formal certification program for teaching, but I have relied on the mentoring of many experts.

Trainer

I have found that as exciting as it is to win awards it is really fun to coach students to wins also.  Nicole and Jessica both won year end awards in the San Diego Chapter of the California Dressage Society.  Jess on her $1.00 quarter horse, Nicole on my fjord mare Valka

Nicole (holding blue ribbon!) has come aboard as my assistant.  She will be teaching on Thursdays and Sundays.

This is here just to prove that the older I get, the better I was.   And to have a little fun using a stock template.  This is me showing my Thoroughbred Moose about 1984.  one of my top favorite horses of all time.  He got me over jumps I had no business jumping, before I knew what I didn't know.
